Synopsis
In 1897, Davis the butler steals Buck the German Shepherd from his happy home on the country estate of kindly Judge Miller in Santa Clara, California. Needing money to pay his gambling debts, Davis sells Buck to the mean-spirited Burton, who in turn plans to sell him for a dog-sled team. Albert Thorton hopes to find enough gold in the Klondike to pay for his daughter's operation, and his son John befriends Buck as they sail from Seattle on the Narwahl. Arriving in Skagway, the gateway to the Klondike, Albert tries to buy Buck at an auction but is outbid by Samuels, who runs the mail over the mountains. Jones loses his father, who is fatally injured in a fall, but is assured by Maltecka, a native spirit in the shape of an eagle, that he will be protected. Encountering Wallace, John rescues Buck and Woof from his harsh mistreatment, and they make their way to the Eldorado Saloon in Dawson City.
