Synopsis
In 1841, off the coast of Massachusetts, Marlby the Sperm Whale is teaching her playful young son, Moby Dick, how to breach when the whaler Pequod appears. The Pequod's boats capsize and her captain, Ahab, loses his leg when Marlby takes a fatal volley of harpoons to protect Moby, who is left all alone. Also alone, fifteen-year-old Ishmael decides to start a new life at sea and signs on as a deckhand aboard the Pequod, finding a friend and mentor in the harpooner Queequeg. But Moby finds it harder to make new friends, until Winnie the Sea Horse gets the other fish to free him from a sunken ship.
A crazed sailor warns Ishmael and Queequeq that Ahab can think of nothing but getting even with Moby, and that those who sail with him are doomed. After a week at sea, they finally see the fearsome peg-legged captain, who sings of his vengeful intension in "Moby Dick". Winnie takes Moby to Stella the Starfish for a few tips on improving his image, but he knows he must still prove himself among the other whales. Winnie and Stella arrange a contest with Storn, the strongest and fastest whale around, but when it comes time for Moby to breach, he is stricken by the memory of Marbly's death and loses.
Ahab nails a gold coin to mast, offering it to the first man finds Moby and when Queequeg spots Storn instead, Ahab orders the crew to let him go. Winnie and Stella take to Siggy the Squid, who says that if he could breach once before he can breach again, and suggests Moby go back to where he first succeeded. As the Pequoud lies anchored off the mainland, Ahab smells Moby and sends Ishmael up the mast to spot him, but the boy loses his balance and falls into the water. Moby and his friends are passing by at that moment, and Winnie takes Ishmael safely into an underground cave full of treasure.
